The main minaret and vaults of Masjid Al Quba as they were rom the late Ottoman period until the 1980s. The original mosque here was the earliest in Islam, its first stones having been laid by the Prophet Muahmmad (PBUH) soon after his arrival in Madinah The Masjid AI Quba is referred to in the Holy Quran : "A mosque which was founded on piety from the first day is more worthy that thou shouldst stand forth [for prayerَ] therein. At that place of worship, there are men who love to purify themselves; and God loveth those who make themselves pure". - Sura : 9 ( AI Tawba ), verse 108.
