This early 20th-century photograph shows Bab Al Masri ( the Egyptian Gate ), also known as Bab Al Suwaiqah or Bab Al Salam ( Gate of peace ), which stood on the west side of the early city wall of Madinah. Originally built circa 1150, in the late Fatimid period, neither the wall nor the gate still exist. Outside the gate was an extensive market place.
